What else is covered under a Home Insurance Contents Policy?

Under all Home Contents Insurance Policies there are standard covers to protect your interest as Occupier or Tenant. As with all other sections of the policy the cover varies slightly from Policy to Policy (You need to check your own policy to ensure that the cover suits your requirements)

Typical Cover

Occupiers Personal and Employers Liability

Your legal liability for damages and costs arising from an accident during the period of insurance which causes:-

  • accidental death or bodily injury to other than members of your own household
  • accidental loss or damage to physical property other than your property or property belonging to your household.

Most that will be paid will be limited per each accident to £1,000,000 (policy limits differ) This sum includes claimants and defences cost approved by your insurer.

Your liability from an accident causing accidental bodily injury to domestic employees. Most that will be paid will be £10,000,000 (policy limits differ).

Exclusions

  • Any legal liability more specifically insured
  • Liability arising from ownership of your home
  • Liability arising from ownership or occupation of another building
  • Liability arising from Sport involving use of motors
  • Liability arising from business trade or profession
  • Liability for the transmission of any dieses or virus
  • Liability arising from an agreement in the absence of which no liability would attach
  • Liability arising from use of mechanically or electrically powered vehicles other than garden machinery
  • Liability arising from the use of powered boats or aircraft unless they are models
  • Liability for animals except horses domestic cats and dogs (except dogs referred to in the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991) 

Tenants Liability

Legal liability arising under the terms of your lease as a tenant for damage caused by:-

  • Storm or flood, freezing of fixed water or heating installations. Escape of water from appliances , foxed water or heating installations. Theft or attempted theft, falling television aerials or satellite dishes.
  • Accidental damage to underground drains and service
  • Accidental breakage of fixed glass or sanitary fittings.

The most amount reimbursable for each incident is £2,000 (limit varies between policies).

Exclusions

  • Damage caused by frost
  • Storm Damage to fences and gates
  • Damage whilst your home is unoccupied or unfurnished.
  • Wear and tear gradually operating clauses.
  • Faulty materials design or workmanship
